As part of the IMERMAID project, Zentrix Lab has developed an innovative PFAS sensing technology designed to address one of today’s most pressing environmental challenges: the monitoring of persistent and hazardous chemicals in water systems.
This advanced solution enables early on-site detection of high concentrations of the most common PFAS compounds, including PFOA and PFOS, in both wastewater and discharged leachates flowing into surface waters. By providing rapid, high-sensitivity screening at the source, the technology supports early warnings and timely intervention to protect human health and the environment.
The system offers several key advantages, including:
-
Autonomous, battery-powered on-site operation
-
Multiple communication modes (4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB/UART) for seamless data transmission
-
Immediate detection of elevated PFAS levels, triggering deeper investigation and analysis
Its operation is intuitive. The device is turned on, the communication method is selected, and the sample—together with a redox probe—is applied to the electrode. The user interface then displays the real-time measurement flow, ensuring clarity and full process visibility.
This technology will soon be deployed at IMERMAID Demonstration Use Case 5, located at the Leachate Treatment Plant of the Pera Galini Sanitary Landfill in Crete, Greece—a critical environment where PFAS detection can significantly enhance monitoring and risk mitigation.
Through this work, Zentrix Lab is providing a powerful tool that supports IMERMAID’s overarching mission: delivering innovative, field-ready solutions to safeguard water quality across the Mediterranean region. Watch thefull videoto learn more.
