The Pesticide Prevention, Reduction, and Remediation Roadmap for Cimislia, Moldova (PPRRRCM) project, implemented under iMERMAID’s Technical Assistance Programme – Open Call 1, successfully supported the Municipality of Cimișlia (Republic of Moldova) in developing a roadmap for pesticide pollution prevention, reduction, and remediation.
The project achieved several critical milestones: It established a local stakeholder platform to ensure collaborative management; it identified priority pesticides and sampling sites before collecting and analysing soil and water samples; it produced an open dataset and contamination map detailing the extent of pesticide pollution; and it developed a comprehensive roadmap and corresponding communication materials. Results were shared widely with local authorities, NGOs, farmers, media, and national stakeholders.
Through close collaboration with the iMERMAID consortium, participation in capacity-building workshops, and a study visit to Banja Luka, the project team gained practical knowledge on innovative monitoring and remediation technologies and assessed their relevance for Moldova. Despite facing timing and reporting constraints, the technical assistance provided by iMERMAID significantly enhanced local capacity to address pesticide pollution. This initiative has successfully positioned Cimișlia as a reference municipality for similar future environmental initiatives across the country.
