The iMERMAID project successfully deployed its prototype system at the Opalia PHARMA manufacturing site. This initial 10-day demonstrative phase represents a critical step in moving advanced water treatment technology from the laboratory to a real-world industrial environment.

The deployment is a collaborative effort between the French deep-tech company Eden Tech and the University of Angers. Eden Tech installed its proprietary microfluidic system, designed for efficient photocatalytic water treatment, while the University of Angers team deployed a sophisticated electrochemical sensor box for real-time monitoring of water quality.

This combined system aims to provide an effective, on-site solution for degrading persistent pollutants found in pharmaceutical wastewater, a growing environmental concern. The deployment in Tunisia allows the project partners to test the system’s performance and durability under actual industrial conditions.

The data gathered during this demonstrative phase will be used to refine the technology and optimise its performance for future, long-term applications in the pharmaceutical industry and beyond.
