The iMERMAID project has just released its first policy brief, outlining innovative strategies to address pollution caused by Contaminants of Emerging Concerns (CoECs). Employing a comprehensive “source-to-sea” approach, iMERMAID is dedicated to safeguarding the Mediterranean Sea and its ecosystems, ensuring a cleaner, healthier future for this vital region.
With the support of a consortium of 26 partners, the project is driving advancements in cutting-edge technologies, regulatory frameworks, and stakeholder engagement. This collaborative effort aligns closely with the objectives of the EU’s Zero Pollution Action Plan and the broader goals of the European Green Deal.
The newly released policy brief offers actionable insights to inspire legislative reforms and technological innovations necessary to tackle CoEC pollution effectively. By fostering cross-sector collaboration, iMERMAID EU is paving the way toward sustainable, long-term solutions to protect marine ecosystems.
