The iMERMAID project announced the results of its first Open Call! After evaluating numerous impressive proposals focused on tackling water pollution challenges, we have selected three outstanding projects that exemplify innovation and collaborative spirit. These winners will receive funding and support to implement their crucial work, contributing significantly to the protection and remediation of vital water resources.

1. BRIDGEWAT: BRIDGing Communities for SustainablE WATers

  • Organisation: Institute for Protection and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska (IPERS)

  • Country: Bosnia and Herzegovina

  • Focus: BRIDGEWAT is set to bridge the critical gap between scientific advancements and public understanding concerning chemical water pollution. Their approach involves extensive community outreach through digital platforms, engaging key regional and local stakeholders (government, NGOs), hosting community workshops, distributing educational materials, and conducting sessions for students and young professionals. Their work is vital for building awareness and driving collective action.

2. IMRHMCSR: Integrated Monitoring and Remediation for Heavy Metal Contamination of the Seyhan River

  • Organisation: Yuregir Municipality

  • Country: Turkey

  • Focus: The IMRHMCSR project tackles the serious issue of heavy metal pollution in the Seyhan River. Key initiatives include piloting a mobile heavy metal sensor for real-time water quality data collection and developing a comprehensive roadmap for preventing and mitigating this contamination. This project not only addresses a critical local issue but also aims to provide a sustainable and replicable solution for other municipalities facing similar challenges.

3. PPRRRCM: Pesticide Prevention, Reduction and remediation Roadmap for Cimislia

  • Organisation: Municipality of Cimislia

  • Country: Moldova

  • Focus: Dedicated to addressing pesticide contamination, the PPRRRCM project will develop a detailed Pesticide Prevention, Reduction, and Remediation Roadmap specifically for Cimislia. This involves establishing a dedicated stakeholder platform, identifying and mapping pollution hotspots, building local technical and organizational know-how, and ultimately working to disseminate and replicate the developed roadmap across the Republic of Moldova.
