The Aquatic Pollutants Final Event kicked off on October 22-23 in Frankfurt, Germany where Naomi Timmer, Director of H2O People and a key partner in the iMERMAID EU project presented her winning idea from the Aquatic Pollutants Innovation Challenge on Science Communication.
The idea focused on raising awareness about toxic chemical pollution in the Mediterranean through a unique combination of a social media campaign and the iMERMAID school project.
Her innovative approach aims to engage the local population and promote long-term behavioral change to reduce the use of harmful chemicals that impact the health of aquatic environments. By educating the next generation and harnessing the power of social media, Naomi’s work is paving the way for more effective communication around environmental sustainability.
Naomi’s presentation was one of the highlights of the first day of the event, where experts, policymakers, and innovators gathered to discuss the latest strategies for addressing aquatic pollutants. The conference will continue with sessions on “Taking Actions” and a panel discussion on “Bridging Perspectives on Key Themes” to explore future opportunities for sustainable water management.
Attendees are encouraged to visit the Knowledge Transfer Booth, which features interactive activities like games, podcasts, and other engaging resources focused on aquatic pollutants and their environmental impacts.
