Meet the IMERMAID Partner Privanova leading the “Ethics Compliance Management and Ethics Advisory Board”

Can you tell us your role in the project and how your expertise contributes to the project’s mission?

At Privanova, we took on the responsibility of ensuring compliance with ethics, privacy, and data protection standards throughout the iMERMAID project. Leading the “Ethics Compliance Management and Ethics Advisory Board” task, we ensured  that the project adheres to the highest ethical standards. Additionally, we assist consortium members in acting according to established frameworks. Through our expertise in data protection and ethics, we manage the project’s Data Management Plan, ensuring that data usage is properly mapped and secure.

What do you think are the main benefits that the project brings forward, and in which areas do you envision the project having its biggest impact?

MERMAID’s key benefits include its strong commitment to ethics and data privacy, alongside its cutting-edge research in marine ecosystems. By ensuring compliance with ethical and data protection standards, we ensure trust among stakeholders, enabling smoother collaboration and innovation. We envision the project having its biggest impact in sustainable marine practices and global data-sharing frameworks, where its emphasis on ethics will set a precedent for future research initiatives.

If we had to describe the iMERMAID project in one word, it would be “pioneering”—it not only pushes forward in marine research but also sets new standards for ethical data use and collaboration in large-scale projects.
